1P Cirriform Tarp

I have used my 1P Cirriform Tarp on several 30-50mi weekend hiking trips over the past couple of years. The Cirriform is lightweight, easy to pitch, and has performed well. I have both the bug canopy and 1P bug shelter depending on how much weight I want to carry, and I just purchased the aluminum poles for lightweight kayak/surfski camping. My camping buddy has a rectangular tarp that inherently has more pitching options, but it has open ends and is not as easy to pitch as the Cirriform. Overall, I am glad I purchased the Cirriform and recommend it.

I've used a Silnylon flat tarp for many years. It provides good ventilation and is ok when there is tree cover to break the wind, but the Silnylon always sags and requires midnight readjustments (especially in the rain), the large flat surfaces do not handle wind load well, and the open ends admit blowing rain. The 1P Cirriform is quick to set up, its low, aerodynamic profile makes it stable in high winds, the Silpoly material does not stretch noticeably when wet, and it can be set down low with the ends closed for protection when the sky is raining sideways. It provides lightweight, secure weather protection in a much wider range of conditions than the flat tarp.

I absolutely love my Cirriform tarp. With the Y-zip bug bivy, it is effectively a double wall tent. Spacious and open when the door is secured in the up position, it really lets you feel your surroundings and be part of the landscape, even if it just happens to be a really nice campground! Closed, it's secure and protective while still being spacious and comfortable. Love it.

Purchased Cirriform to have more weather protection when needed than my current Yama tapered tarp. Cirriform was very easy to set up and the side-entry option should work great with my bug bivy. Quality is excellent and am excited to try it out as Fall weather approaches. Can a person have two favorite tarps? YES!

I have use the tarp for a 2 night trip paired with the 1p bug inner. Shaped tarps like this are very easy to set up and the Yama is ready out of the box with the rigging. Without an inner, this is a very roomy tarp for one person. At 6'4" with big feet, I think I'd be well clear of the side and end for any pitch other than right to the ground. There is still plenty of room for me with the 1p bug inner -- it took a lot of fidgeting to touch the inner mesh with my feet and there is still a big distance to the tarp walls (assuming a high pitch). I haven't had it out in very windy weather yet, but it was cozy when sitting out a couple hours of rain.

Very well designed! By far the most versatile and most favourite tarp among the 5 tarps I have owned. The feature I love the most is the two-way entry. I can open up the side door when the weather is nice, and enjoy the view. I can be enclosed and feel safe when the weather turns nasty, which often happens in mountains where I hike. I can't wait to test it in the high winds on a mountain ridge.

I am so excited to get out in my new Cirriform tarp. It really is the best of all worlds. Lightweight, full coverage, and it doesn't break the bank either!

Pictured are the 1P Cirriform with 1P bug shelter (newest iterations as of Jan 2025). Amazing setup! Easiest pitch I’ve ever had with a trekking pole tent. The inner did great in keeping frozen condensation from snowing on me inside the tent. Just the right amount of space for one person. Relatively lightweight, and I keep the inner attached to the tarp for easy pitching and packing up (I just stuff it all in a stuff sack). Highly recommended as a catch-all shelter.

In my opinion this tarp provides excellent weather protection. Once you get your pitch dialed in this tarp is drum tight! What makes this tarp unique is each end has solid walls unlike many A-frame and catenary cut tarps which are opened on the ends. Another great feature of the Cirriform Tarp is the ability to unzip one whole side of the tarp. This makes getting in and out of the tarp a breeze and feeling more connected to nature. You can pair this with just a ground sheet, bivy or bug net for full on protection. If you enjoy tarp camping this might be a great option to try. Price is fair as well and Gen at Yama Mountian Gear does a quality job! #hikesimply

Been a proud customer of Gen since the end of 2019 when my first item from YMG was ultra light dcf tarp and since then my gear closet has grown with quite a few YMG purchases. I’ll be taking my newest silpoly Cirriform on my upcoming Pinhoti thru hike and will use my YMG 1p net tent along with another new purchase of an ultra light bivy I’d been wanting to try. And, if I had any questions about any of Gens products he has always responded and honestly besides his gear being top notch , I personally love giving my business to YMG

The size, durability and sophisticated design are excellent. I think we will be having a lot of fun in the future. I am very satisfied with the gear, which is more than the price.

Beautiful and rugged piece of craftsmanship! I had decided to finally make the transition from tent to tarp and after much research was committed to the Cirriform for 3+ seasons around New England - I waited for it to come back in stock this summer and it was well worth it and has already exceeded my high expectations. Incredibly light and very packable, intuitive and quick set up. Lots of room and the highly functional dual entries/roll away break allow for a lot of versatility. Gen was also super communicative and responsive, and shipped it surprisingly quick! Would highly recommend this tarp in particular and his work in general!

I eally enjoyed using the SilPoly Cirriform tarp with Y-zip bug bivy on the Te Araroa a few months ago. Pitching was super easy, always tight and does very well in wind! I loved the side opening for stargazing and easy entrance. Workmanship is top notch, and I feel like this shelter will last ages. Because of the silpoly material, the packing size is very small and you can just stuff it into its stuffbag. The footprint is nice and small, but the inside space is also quite small. Sometimes I wished I had a bigger tent to move around in when the sandflies were very bad, but other than that, it has been great.

I used the silpoly Cirriform 1 on my thruhike of the Haute Route Pyrenée last summer. 500 miles/800 km with frequent altitudes of 6500-8000+ feet/2000-2500+ meters over 38 consecutive days hiking. It's a great shelter. The build/seems is second to none. The side-entry makes it a lot easier to get in and out. I paired it with a wind bivy, a Neoair Xlite sleeping pad and a WM Summerlite sleeping bag and no issues hitting the foot end being 5'10". Manages condensation well. The footprint is pretty small and pretty much rectangular which I prefer. Just be aware that this is not a shelter you hang out in for hours on end.

I've been climbing and backpacking since 1976 and over the course of those decades have tried countless shelters, always in search of the perfect solo set up. A recent revisit to the bug bivy realm led me to Yama gear and once I saw their product line I ventured fourth hoping their gear was as great as the five star reviews. Long story short, I am blown away at the quality of each product I've purchased in the last month. The Cirriform Min is a work of genius. The detailing is fantastic. The quaternary cut makes set up a breeze. The double tie off for the beak and tail make it capable of handling Cascade storms. And the best part is the side door allowing me, now of wider girth, the ability to roll out of the tent like a Lincoln log! The night I used it was free of mist and rain and I was able to keep the door open all night, staring at the surrounding North Cascade wonders in awe. The bug netting (Y zip bug bivy) Gen uses is of the highest quality, allowing one to gaze at nature as if looking through a clear window. Needless to say I am a huge fan of this fine company, the wonderful responses from Gen, and the fact he and his crew care about the environment as much as I do.

If you are looking for one of the lightest non-DCF, Silpoly, one-person, double-walled shelters with a small footprint, this tent has all of that. I'm currently using this with the bug tent. It's the perfect minimal tarp/tent if all you really care about doing in it is sleep. I love the side entry and the front entry isn't that bad. I love how open you can get this shelter when the weather is great.

Really pleased with the Cirriform Min. Excellent build and material. I've so far only experienced wind gusts of about 44km/h but it was rock solid. If I'm expecting poor weather this is the tarp I take. Very compact when packed. My aging bones appreciate the side-entry! This and a Y-zip bivy weighs 585g on my scales including seam-sealing, stuff sacks and all rigging.

What you can't see in the photo is the incredible attention to detail and highest quality workmanship. Second to none in my opinion. At 6'3", I can't use the A-Frame type shelters. The Cirriform is well suited to taller folks and side or front entry is an added plus. One thing I modified for personal preference is the guyline, I like Lawson's Reflective Glowire. Also, when seam sealing, I added a thin coat to the reinforcing patch at each peak so I can use my trekking poles handle up. They grab a bit better this way. Highly recommend all YMG gear!

I really enjoyed the cirriform min. I am 6'2" with a short torso and 36" inseam. I originally got it for my shorter partner but ended up using it for myself in the Winds after our trip got canceled due to wildfires. I could see why some at my height would want the longer version. The vestibule space could be considered limited for heating water in a downpour, but I managed just fine. My only issue with it was sorted out after another night of use. I pitched it too low and got my quilt wet through contact with the cirriform on a very rainy night. Of course that is just user error. The following rainy nights did not cause issue once the cirriform was pitched a little higher. I'm loving the silpoly and how quickly the cirrirorm packs up. Pitching the cirrirorm has become a breeze. It's connection with the wind bivy is seemless.

Really a super solid tarp for UL thru/section hikers that don't like living in a tarp and would rather bivy. I'll be honest, this is a small tarp. Don't expect to have a ton of room unless you pitch it super high and wide, but I normally done even do that. As of this writing, I'm on the AT, and I try to bivy every night, so this mainly lives as a tarp in my pillow sack, but that's ok. In my use case, the big need for shelter is for weather, be it high winds, snow, rain, sleet, etc. I picked this tarp because of wind worthiness, and holy crap does this thing shed wind. The slightly more involved setup versus a mid is worth the similar if not better wind performance, and this silpoly can be pitched super hecking taut. I think because it isn't a square you can choose campsites and orientations that would be advantageous in high winds. In any weather, this tarp will not only stay standing, it wont even flap in a super tight storm pitch. It's definitely overkill protection wise, think Colorado Trail/CDT garbage conditions for optimal performance. As for living in this tarp extensively, I would caution against it. I can't even change my pants easily in a storm pitch, I need to go sideways. If you want livability, go with a 2 person, if not a 2 person normal Cirriform, not the Min. This is not a "YouTube hype, do everything" tarp. this is the tarp equivalent of a Gore-Tex extreme mountaineering fully enclosed bivy: small, light, hard to stay in for more than sleeping, and absolutely indestructible. I would not recommend this tarp to anyone who likes chilling in the tarp for long periods of time, although the side entry works amazingly as a one sided wind block for a bivy, but it really shines as a "just in case an Armageddon monsoon thunderstorm snowdrift hellfire shows up out of nowhere." If you want to try tarping, go with a flat or normal tapered tarp. If you want ultimate insurance from high alpine or end-of-days weather, and mainly sleep out under the stars (and can get changed behind a tree or something), this may be the ultimate tarp for you. I know this is a long review, but I do want to add that Gen is an amazing person to work with, he made mine with a opposite sided zipper entrance to work with my bivy (the timing worked out, but not in any way a regular custom work order) and worked with me to build my perfect shelter. I hate having to say 5 stars, because I know some people see it and go with it no matter what their other gear is, but it really is ultra bombproof if not very small and cramped, but that is what it's for. it also goes without saying that every single stitch is absolutely perfect, every feature thought out to a ridiculous degree (except for the front vent thing, although I think I just pitch it way too tight to make it useful, so that's on me). For people who love to not actually use a tarp, but go places where weather can zap you into oblivion, this is the perfect tarp. If you love seeing the stars at night in Colorado, but hike above treeline in June, this is the perfect tarp. If your kit is ultra dialed and you literally can't do DCF because the fabric is too rigid and sticky for insane snow storms, this is the perfect tarp. Ok, that's it, but seriously, an unbelievable tarp.
